Mihajlo Zurković



Mihajlo Zurković was born in Sombor, where he began his musical education. At the age of 14, he became a "year zero" student for exceptional young talents at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad. He graduated and master's degree in the same institution with the highest marks in the class of prof Jokuthon Mihailović. He is the winner of many awards at national and international competitions, the most important of which are: first special prize at the international competition "Petar Konjović" (Belgrade, 1995), first prize at the international competition "Citta di Moncalieri" (Moncalieri, Italy, 1995), third prize at the "Frederick Chopin" international competition (Novi Sad, 1997), first prize at the International Forum in Kyiv (Ukraine, 2009) as well as a finalist diploma at the "Dinu Lipatti" piano competition (Bucharest, Romania, 2002).

Since his first solo concert at the age of 12, he has played over four hundred recitals, and chamber concerts and performed as a soloist with various orchestras. He played in all important halls in Serbia (KNU, Belgrade City Assembly, Synagogue and Town Hall in Novi Sad, Town Hall in Subotica, Symphony Orchestra Hall in Nis...) and had notable performances in Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Montenegro, Italy, France, Spain, Belgium, Romania, Hungary, Japan, China, Russia and the USA. 

He performed at festivals: Sombor music festivals, BEMUS, NIMUS, "Kek madar" (Kaloča, Hungary), "Pianotune" (Lommel, Belgium), "Festival di Musica Terni" (Terni, Italy), "Festival di Musica Lago di Como" (Como, Italy), "Piano Echos" (Villa Remotti, Fubine, Italy), "Festival de Musica de Sant Pere de Rodes" (Girona, Spain), "Les folles Journees" (Kanazawa, Tokyo, Japan), "Scene National De Sete , Ensemble Conterpoint” (Set, France) and “Movimentos” (Wolfsburg, Germany).

He participated in the "40 fingers" project, during which he had a series of notable performances in Italy. In December 2009, he made his debut in New York with a recital in "Bechstein Hall". In March 2010, he continued his concert activity in Russia with performances in several important halls in Saint Petersburg: the Small Hall of the Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory, the Great Hall of the Modest Mussorgsky College (as part of the festival dedicated to Chopin), and in one of the most prestigious halls - the Sheremetyevo Palace.

During the 2013/14 concert season, he participated in a large project of the Irish company "Fabulous Beast Dance Theater", in which he performed "The Rite of Spring" and "Petrushka" by Igor Stravinsky at festivals in Germany and Ireland.

In 2009, he released a compact disc produced by the cultural center "Laza Kostić" from Sombor and the Novi Sad Academy of Arts with works by Schubert, Chopin, Brahms, and Scriabin.

Mihajlo Zurković is the creator, one of the founders, and the first artistic director of the re-established music festival of the Sombor music festival - SOMUS.

He is employed as an associate professor at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad.
