Jury procedures

ARTICLE 1

The members, the number and the organization of jury members according to categories in 

Zemun International Music Competition (further in the text – Competition) are chosen by the Professional committees according to the disciplines.

 

ARTICLE 2

The jury members are renowned music pedagogues and music artists from abroad and the host country.

 

ARTICLE 3

For the discipline PIANO SOLO, the Jury will consist of at least three members (two members from abroad and one member from Serbia). The jury president will be chosen by the jury members.

For the discipline WIND INSTRUMENTS, the jury will consist of at least three members (two members from abroad and one member from Serbia). The jury president will be chosen by the jury members.

 

ARTICLE 4

The president of the jury is obliged to:

  • Make sure that every member of the jury assesses the contestants according to the Jury procedures and to intervene in time in any case of violations or irregularities
  • give the Secretary of the competition, after each category is finished, the names of the contestants that will participate in the Final Concert.

 

ARTICLE 5

Jury members are obligated to:

  • evaluate all the competitors’ performances according to the Jury procedures;
  • evaluate the contestants on the assigned official forms;
  • participate in the work of the jury during the whole Competition;
  • participate during all jury sessions;
  • sign meeting minutes and score lists;
  • intervene with the Jury President if any irregularities occur during the Competition that are not in accordance with Jury Procedures.


 
 

  

ARTICLE 6

A jury member will not evaluate a performance if the contestant is his/her relative, or is his/her student or is from the same school. In this case, the average score of the remaining jury members will represent the score of the jury member that is not evaluating the performance.

 

ARTICLE 7

The jury Secretary for each discipline is appointed by the Director of the competition.

The jury secretary is obliged to:

  • convene the jury members 30 minutes before the beginning of each category;
  • inform the jury members about the Competition rules, Propositions and Jury procedures;
  • attend the jury meetings throughout the competition;
  • take the minutes at the jury meetings;
  • calculate the average final score for every contestant according to score lists.
     The average score is rounded to two decimal places. In situations when rounding the score, if the number crosses the lowest border line for winning a prize, the contestant is awarded the next lower ranked prize (example: 94.99 points is ranked as the prize for the second place not the first place);
  • correct the scores (the lowest and highest score) to 3 points before the next score;
  • monitor and organize the performance of the candidates in agreement with the Jury president
  • edit any incorrect data of the contestants important for their participation and for the issuance of diplomas, in accordance with the Competition Rules and Propositions;
  • announce the contestants' performance and to signal their start;
  • collect the filled out score lists from jury members, after the completion of each category;
  • inform the Jury president and Organization committee of any irregularities in the work of jury members or problems during the competitions, so that they can accordingly decide whether to stop or continue the competition;
  • give to the Secretary of the competition, upon the ending of each category, all records, individual lists signed by all the jury members and score lists signed by the Jury president and Jury secretary himself. This documentation is kept indefinitely.
  • maintain confidentiality of the documentation of the contestants and the data about the decision making, and not to compromise any data or the competition itself in any way by giving it to third parties;
  • be accountable for any misuse of documentation he/she is responsible for, and that legal action could be taken against him/her by the Founder.

 

ARTICLE 8

The Jury secretary takes the minutes of jury meetings and records important data and decisions taken by the Jury. The Jury president and the Jury Secretary sign the minutes after they have been read by the rest of the jury.


ARTICLE 9

Forms with the information about the performance of contestants of each category contain:

  • Name and surname of the contestant;
  • The discipline and the Category of the contestant;
  • A field for a score which should be put in numbers given by a jury member;
  • A field for any comments;
  • A field for the signature of a jury member;
  • A field for the signature of the jury secretary.

Notice: The form is given to all jury members.

 

Collective form – score summary list contains:

  • The Information of the discipline and the category;
  • The date when the competition is held;
  • The listed number of each contestant, name and surname;
  • Name and surname of every jury member;
  • Fields for score numbers of each jury member;
  • A field for the calculated score average;
  • A field that shows if the contestant won a prize;
  • A field for signatures of all jury members and jury secretary;
  • A field for the signature of the competition Secretary for receiving the joint form;
  • Date when the joint form was introduced.


 
 

The table for final competition results contains:

  • The information about the discipline and the category;
  • Name and surname of the contestant in the order of the performance;
  • Presented scores of all jury members;
  • Average score number;
  • Prize awarded;
  • A field for the signature of the Jury President;
  • A field for the signature of the jury secretary.


 

ARTICLE 10

Jury members evaluate every contestant with points from 0 to 100. The individual score lists are presented by a member of the jury after the end of each category. The Jury secretary produces a ranking list by calculating the arithmetic average grade for every participant, which is then rounded to two decimal places.


 

ARTICLE 11

If the participants' performance exceeds the maximum duration allocated to his/her category, the jury can, according to existing rules, interrupt and evaluate the participants’ performance up to that point, if the participant played the obligatory repertoire and part of the freely selected repertoire. If the jury is undecided on this matter, it can allow the exceeding of the maximum duration. For performing a premiere piece or a piece not catalogued, the music scores of this piece must be attached with the application form.


 

ARTICLE 12

The particip ant can change one of the pieces if the Founder or the jury secretary is informed, at least one hour before the competition begins in the category the participant is performing. The program change is valid if the jury members agree with the change.


 

ARTICLE 13

The ranking of the contestants is established by adding the scores from the score lists of jury members and by dividing the total with the number of jury members evaluating the performances, rounded off to two decimal places.


 

ARTICLE 14

Awards and diplomas are awarded based on the following criteria:

Discipline PIANO SOLO:

The competition in Pre-Category, I and II categories is one-stage and there can be an unlimited number of prizes awarded according to the following criteria:

I prize from 95 to 100 points

II prize from 85 to 94.99 points

III prize from 75 to 84.99 points

Commendation from 65 to 74.99

In the Pre-sategory, I and II category, the awarded participants receive diplomas on the award won and medals (Gold medal - I award, Silver medal - II award, Bronze medal - III award). Commended participants receive diplomas for participating in the competition. The jury also announces the Laureate for each category individually and a trophy is awarded as a prize.

The competition in III, IV, V and VI categories is in two stages. Participants are evaluated according to the following criteria:

I prize from 95 to 100 points

II prize from 85 to 94.99 points

III prize from 75 to 84.99 points

Commendation from 65 to 74.99

The participants who won at least 85 points are placed in the second stage.

Participants who do not place in the second stage receive diplomas for participation in the competition.

The number of points from the first and second stages is added up and divided by the number two, which gives the final grade and placement of the competitors.

In III, IV, V and VI categories, the awarded participants receive diplomas on the award won and medals (Gold medal - I award, Silver medal - II award, Bronze medal - III award).

The jury also announces the Laureate for each category separately and a trophy is awarded as a prize.

The jury between the Laureate categories selects the Laureate of the discipline for each discipline individually and he/she will be awarded with:

- monetary prize

- Diploma Laureate of the competition

- organization of a solo concert in the Ceremonial Hall of the Elementary School "Kosta Manojlovic" in the next school year in relation to the year of the competition

- participation in one of the Masterclasses organized by the school, and in agreement with the competitor.

The jury reserves the right not to award a particular prize.

The jury will award a Special Prize for the best performance of a work by a local composer in each discipline. Candidates in I and II category can perform a composition of Serbian author as a composition of their choice. This gives them the opportunity to win the Special Award for the best performance of a work by a local composer.

Discipline WIND INSTRUMENTS PLAYERS:

An unlimited number of prizes can be awarded in each category according to the following criteria:

I prize from 95 to 100 points

II prize from 85 to 94.99 points

III prize from 75 to 84.99 points

Commendation from 65 to 74.99

In all categories, the awarded participants receive diplomas on the award won. The awarded participants receive diplomas on the prize won and medals (Gold medal - I prize, Silver medal - II prize, Bronze medal - III prize). Commended participants receive diplomas for participating in the competition.

In case that more competitors have the same number of points, the advantage is given to the younger competitor.

The first-placed competitor in the category is the Laureate of the category, and in addition to the diploma and medal, he/she also receives a trophy for the Laureate of the category.

The jury between the Laureate categories selects the Laureate of the discipline for each discipline individually and he/she will be awarded with:

- monetary prize

- Diploma Laureate of the competition

- organization of a solo concert in the Ceremonial Hall of the Elementary School "Kosta Manojlović" in the next school year in relation to the year of the competition

- participation in one of the Masterclasses organized by the school, and in agreement with the competitor.

The jury will award a Special Prize for the best performance of a work by a local composer in the discipline WIND INSTRUMENTS PLAYERS.

Prizes are awarded at the end of the competition, at the final gala concert, with the obligatory presence of Laureate categories for each discipline.

The decision made by the Jury is irrevocable.
