Rules of competition

Music school "Kosta Manojlović" (further in the text as Founder) organizes the International competition "Zemun International Music Competition" (further in the text as Competition).

 

ARTICLE 1

The international competition “Zemun International Music Competition” is a public event.

 

ARTICLE 2

The Competition will be held according to Competition rules, Jury procedures, and Competition propositions.

The Competition rules define all elements concerning the organization of the Competition, while Competition propositions cover the programs of competitive disciplines and participant categories.

The Organizing Committee of the Competition formulates the Competition rules.

 

ARTICLE 3

The competition is held every year, at the end of April (piano solo) and at the end of May (wind instruments and composition), in the Music school „Kosta Manojlović“ in Zemun, Belgrade, Nemanjina 9, Serbia.

Notice:

- The disciplines are divided into categories according to the age of the contestants.

 

ARTICLE 4

The President of the competition is the Principal. The deputy president of the competition is the Assistant to the Principal.

The President of the competition forms the Organizing Committee of the competition by disciplines, which consists of representatives of a particular professional school council. The Оrganizing Committee has a task to directly participate in the entire organization of the competition.

The Рresident of the competition appoints the secretary of the competition.

The President of the competition appoints the members of the competition jury on the basis of the proposal of the members of the Organizing Committee.

 

ARTICLE 5

The application forms are submitted with a deadline set by the Organizing Committee.

By registering at the Competition, the participant is informed that all the data received in the application form will remain within the database of the Competition and this data can be used in the report of the Competition. The report includes the participants' ratings and statistics, which the Founder can disclose fully or partially.

The Application Form requirements:

  • Name and surname of contestant
  • Citizenship
  • Date and place of birth
  • Name of music school and grade
  • The address of the contestant
  • The telephone number of the contestant
  • E-mail of the contestant
  • Name and surname of the music teacher
  • The phone number of the music teacher
  • E-mail of the music teacher
  • Competing category applied by contestant
  • Program and its duration.
  • The statement of consent that the Founder reserves the right to publish audiovisual material

The contestant is also required to submit:

  • Participation fee receipt (in case of canceling the participation, the fee is nonrefundable)

The candidate guarantees the accuracy of the data entered in the application and that he is familiar with the rules of the competition.

 

ARTICLE 6

The Founder reserves the right to publish audiovisual material. The contestants waive all rights, including copyright or any other rights concerning the usage of audio or visual materials which will be created through their participation and/or their performance during the competition and the events that follow the competition. The founder reserves the right to publish audio and/or video recordings on CD, DVD, publications, and the Internet.

 

ARTICLE 7

The applications of the contestants will be examined by the Secretary of the competition who will check if they are in accordance with the Propositions and the Rules of the competition.

 

ARTICLE 8

The number of the categories and the age of the contestants will be determined by the Professional committees according to each discipline.

The program will be performed in accordance with the propositions.

 

 

 

ARTICLE 9

For the discipline PIANO SOLO, the Pre-category, I, and II-category participants compete in one round. The participants in the III, IV, V, and VI categories compete in two rounds, the first being the eliminatory round, according to the competition Propositions.

For the discipline WIND INSTRUMENTS, the contestants compete in one round and in accordance with the Propositions of the competition.

 

ARTICLE 10

The Jury of the Competition will consist of prominent musicians and pedagogues from Serbia and abroad according to the disciplines.

For the discipline PIANO SOLO, the Jury will consist of at least three members (two members from abroad and one member from Serbia). The jury president will be chosen by the jury members.

For the discipline WIND INSTRUMENTS, the jury will consist of at least three members (two members from abroad and one member from Serbia). The jury president will be chosen by the jury members.

 

ARTICLE 11

The Competition Propositions as well as the duration of the programme for each category are determined by the Professional Committee, and approved by the Organizing Committee.

 

ARTICLE 12

Awards and diplomas are awarded based on the following criteria:

 

Discipline PIANO SOLO:

The competition in the Pre-category, I, and II categories is one-stage and there can be an unlimited number of prizes awarded according to the following criteria:

  • I prize from 95 to 100 points
  • II prize from 85 to 94.99 points
  • III prize from 75 to 84.99 points
  • Commendation from 65 to 74.99

 

In the Pre-category, I and II category, the awarded participants receive diplomas on the award won and medals (Gold medal - I award, Silver medal - II award, Bronze medal - III award). Commended participants receive diplomas for participating in the competition. The jury also announces the Laureate for each category individually and a trophy is awarded as a prize.

 

The competition in the III, IV, V, and VI categories is in two stages. Participants are evaluated according to the following criteria:

 

  • I prize from 95 to 100 points
  • II prize from 85 to 94.99 points
  • III prize from 75 to 84.99 points
  • Commendation from 65 to 74.99

 

The participants who won at least 85 points are placed in the second stage. After the first stage is completed, a list of competitors who have qualified for the second stage is published, without their points.

Participants who do not place in the second stage receive diplomas for participation in the competition.

The number of points from the first and second stages is added up and divided by the number two, which gives the final grade and placement of the competitors.

In the III, IV, V, and VI categories, the awarded participants receive diplomas on the award won and medals (Gold medal - I award, Silver medal - II award, Bronze medal - III award).

The jury also announces the Laureate for each category separately and a trophy is awarded as a prize.

The jury chooses two Laureates of the piano solo discipline from among the Laureate categories (one each for the younger categories - pre-category, I, II, III and for older IV, V, VI categories), as well as one for the discipline of wind instruments, and he will be awarded:

- monetary prize

- Diploma Laureate of the competition

- organization of a solo concert in the Ceremonial Hall of the Music School "Kosta Manojlovic" in the next school year in relation to the year of the competition

- participation in one of the Masterclasses organized by the school, and in agreement with the competitor.

 

The jury reserves the right not to award a particular prize.

 

The jury will award a Special Prize for the best performance of a work by a Serbian composer in each discipline. Candidates in the Pre-category, I, and II category can perform a composition of Serbian author as a composition of their choice. This gives them the opportunity to win the Special Award for the best performance of a work by a Serbian composer.

 

Discipline WIND INSTRUMENTS:

 

An unlimited number of prizes can be awarded in each category according to the following criteria:

  • I prize from 95 to 100 points
  • II prize from 85 to 94.99 points
  • III prize from 75 to 84.99 points
  • Commendation from 65 to 74.99

 

In all categories, the awarded participants receive diplomas on the award won. The awarded participants receive diplomas on the prize won and medals (Gold medal - I prize, Silver medal - II prize, Bronze medal - III prize). Commended participants receive diplomas for participating in the competition.

In case more competitors have the same number of points, the advantage is given to the younger competitor. 

 

The first-placed competitor in the category is the Laureate of the category, and in addition to the diploma and medal, he/she also receives a trophy for the Laureate of the category.

The jury between the Laureate categories selects the Laureate of the discipline for each discipline individually and he/she will be awarded with:

- monetary prize

- Diploma Laureate of the competition

- organization of a solo concert in the Ceremonial Hall of the Music School "Kosta Manojlović" in the next school year in relation to the year of the competition

- participation in one of the Masterclasses organized by the school, and in agreement with the competitor.

 

The jury will award a Special Prize for the best performance of a work by a Serbian composer in the discipline WIND INSTRUMENTS.

Prizes are awarded at the end of the competition, at the final gala concert, with the obligatory presence of Laureate categories for each discipline.

  

ARTICLE 13

 

The diploma for the participants receiving the awards contains the following:

  • Name and surname of the participant
  • Category, discipline and award information
  • A seal, jury’s signature and the signature of the President of the competition

The diploma for the placement in the second round for III, IV, V, VI and VII for the discipline PIANO SOLO contains the following information:

  • The name and the surname of the participant
  • The information about the discipline, category and the placement into the second round of the competition
  • A seal, jury’s signature and the signature of the President of the competition

The diploma for the participation in the competition contains the following information:

  • The name and the surname of the participant
  • The information about the discipline and the category
  • A seal, jury’s signature and the signature of the President of the competition

  

ARTICLE 14

Contestants and accompanying persons bear all the costs by themselves for their lodging and travel.

The Founder is not responsible for any injury of the contestants or damage to instruments and other equipment in possession of the contestants during the Competition.

 

ARTICLE 15

The Competition rules will be presented in two languages, but in case of any misunderstanding or dispute, the valid version will be the one in Serbian language.
